NEW YORK http://www.stlouisbluesteamstore.com/adidas-nate-prosser-jersey , Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- New York City police officers on Sunday again showed their anger at Mayor Bill de Blasio by turning their backs on him as he was delivering a eulogy in the funeral for slain police officer Wenjian Liu.
The show of dissent happened a week earlier at the funeral for officer Rafael Ramos, who was killed in an ambush along with Liu when the two were sitting in their patrol car.
The killer, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, who killed himself soon after, had said he was seeking to avenge white police officers' killing of two unarmed black men this summer.
Politicians http://www.stlouisbluesteamstore.com/adidas-martin-brodeur-jersey , police leaders and other mourners joined family members inside the Brooklyn funeral home to honor Liu.
Mayor de Blasio praised Liu as an example of a "brave" and "kind" New Yorker who came to the city from China and followed his dream to join the Police Department.
"We have lost a man who had embodied our city's most cherished values," the mayor said.
"Detective Liu's dream was clear and it was a noble one: to don the blue uniform, to pin on the badge, to dedicate himself to protecting and serving the city he loved."
As he spoke, police officers from New York as well as some of those who joined them in mourning from around the country turned their backs.
Some officers accused the mayor of encouraging anti-police fervor because of his support of protests against police brutality http://www.stlouisbluesteamstore.com/adidas-magnus-paajarvi-jersey , which as a result led to an anti-police climate in the city.
Before Liu's memorial service, Police Commissioner William Bratton had urged police officers to be reverent and refrain from acting disrespectfully.
"A hero's funeral is about grieving, not grievance," Bratton said in a memo. He said the earlier display put all New York Police Department officers in a bad light.
"It stole the valor, honor and attention that rightfully belonged to the memory of detective Rafael Ramos' life and sacrifice http://www.stlouisbluesteamstore.com/adidas-luke-opilka-jersey ," his memo read.
Officer Liu, 32, came with his parents to the United States from China at the age of 12. He had served as a policeman for seven years and was married just two months when he and Ramos were killed on Dec. 20.
The funeral was believed to be the city's first for a Chinese-American officer killed in the line of duty.
New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo on Saturday called Liu's and Ramos' deaths a tragic story of "pure and random hatred."
"What makes New York strong is that we take our diversity and make it a strength and not a weakness," he said earlier. "We have to stop any fights within the family."

A South African appeals court increased Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius' sentence for murdering his girlfriend to 13 years and five months on Friday, marking a victory for prosecutors in a case that shocked the world.
The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein more than doubled his original sentence of six years after the state argued that it was unduly lenient.
Pistorius, 31 http://www.stlouisbluesteamstore.com/adidas-joel-edmundson-jersey , was not in court for the hearing.
South African court doubles Pistorius sentence to more than 13 years
Prosecutors argued earlier this month that Oscar Pistorius failed to show genuine remorse after killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
"One of the essential ingredients of a balanced sentence is that it must reflect the seriousness of the offence," Andrea Johnson, of the National Prosecution Authority, had told the court.
Pistorius' lawyer Barry Roux mounted a strong defence of the judge who handed down the six-year sentence, saying she took into account his claim that he believed he was shooting an intruder.

The Paralympic athlete shot dead Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 2013 when he fired four times through the door of his bedroom toilet.
He pleaded not guilty at his trial in 2014 and has always denied that he killed Steenkamp in a rage http://www.stlouisbluesteamstore.com/adidas-joe-mullen-jersey , saying he mistook her for a burglar.
In 2015, Pistorius was found guilty of murder and given less than half of the minimum 15 years in jail for that crime.
Pistorius was originally convicted of culpable homicide - the equivalent of manslaughter - but the appeal court upgraded his conviction.
'JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED'
Nazreen Shaik Peremanov, a constitutional law expert at the University of South Africa's law school, told AFP that Pistorius could now appeal the latest sentence at the country's highest court - the Constitutional Court.
"They were forced to impose that sentence, and the court found there were no substantial and compelling circumstances and thus handed down (that) period of imprisonment http://www.stlouisbluesteamstore.com/adidas-jay-bouwmeester-jersey ," said legal analyst Ulrich Roux. "(Recent) sentences have been much more harsh than in the past, in my opinion."
National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Luvuyo Mfaku said he was pleased with the Supreme Court's ruling.
